Precinct 2 and Harris County Public Library teamed up with Google and T-Mobile to provide 5G internet and Chromebook laptops to those in our community who need them. Qualification is easy. You will need to certify that you have slow (or no internet) and you have not received a modem or hotspot from the library or your local school district.

Who qualifies to check out these devices?

You qualify to check out a hotspot or Chromebook if any of the following conditions are met: 

You do not have highspeed internet service where you live. You do not have an internet-capable computer or laptop.  The internet service where you live is slow or unreliable.  Your computer or laptop is slow or unreliable.

How long can I keep the 5G hotspot and Chromebook?

Precinct 2 and the Harris County Public Library is making the Chromebooks and T-Mobile 5G WiFi hotspots available for lifetime checkout. The internet service will automatically renew, so you can take your time to learn and get comfortable with the devices.   As long as program funding is available, HCPL will recertify the hotspot and extend service automatically.   If you decide to return your device it can be dropped off at any Harris County Public Library location.

What documents do I need to show?

You do not need to provide proof of your qualifications.  No documentation is required to participate in this program, but participants must certify that they are eligible.
